I have been around canaries it
seems all my life. My dad has been breeding
canaries since 1953. Him (Luis Masferrer) and his partner (Jose “Pepe”

My earliest recollections of my interest in canaries take me back to the age of about 5. When I used to help my father with his birds. I would assist him with the feeding and cleaning. During breeding season, He would let me hold the chicks and help feed them. I remember starring at the eggs and admiring the blue hue of the eggs and the specs of darker coloring on the ends. The hardest part was the waiting in anticipation for the eggs to hatch.
I
became more interested at the age of 11 when I read my first book on
canary breeding. I tried to memorize the book and would read it often. I
would go with my dad to the local canary shows. I would ask all kinds of questions to who ever would take the time
to listen. I took back what I would learned and applied it to our birds.
Fast forward a few years (being
kind to myself), my family and I moved to Florida in December or 2005.
I missed being around the birds and the climate here is so nice. I found myself looking on the internet for local bird
breeders.
I found a Gloster Canary breeder by the name of Freddy in the
I purchased my Initial
stock from Casa Canary. The
opportunity presented its self where I was able to purchase additional
birds from House of Crests with the help of Casa Canary. I have been
following the regimen suggested in the House of Crests website.
I only use Abba, Quicko and Avi-Culture (an avian-specific
probiotic) products. I purchase my supplies from “Chippy the Pirate” located in
As to my dad, he has recently
moved to Florida also. He has sold off many of the birds he had in
Jersey. We are in the process of setting him up now with a small
stock of canaries he brought with him and some he as acquired from our
friends here in Miami. So far it looks like we will both be working together again this up coming year.
